Breast Augmentation

Breast Augmentation Procedure

Breast augmentation is a simple cosmetic procedure that aims to reshape the breasts by giving them a larger, fuller, and rounder shape. The most common medical fillings used in this procedure are made of silicone and saline liquid.

The cosmetic doctor determines the type of filling according to the required size and desired results, as well as the skin type, body shape, and age, the latter being considered a key factor in determining the type of fillings.

  • Silicone fillings: Give a natural look to the breast shape, as it consists of a silicone shell filled with silicone gel, which is a transparent viscous liquid that is similar in composition to the deciduous glands that make up the breast. A woman must be over 20 to be suitable for a breast augmentation procedure with silicone fillings.

Not any woman can undergo a breast augmentation procedure as there are a set of conditions that must be fulfilled first:

  2. Must be healthy and be free of any disease that might compromise the success of the procedure.
  3. Women who suffer from size changes in their breasts due to weight loss, repeated pregnancies, childbirth, or breastfeeding.
  4. Women who have lost their breasts due to cancer or accidents.

Pre-Breast Augmentation Surgery Tips

The doctor will give you some instructions which must be followed before the breast augmentation procedure, such as:

  1. Avoid smoking for one month before undergoing breast augmentation surgery, for it narrows the veins and reduces the oxygen rate in the blood.
  2. Quit any medications that cause blood thinning, such as Aspirin and ibuprofen combinations.
  3. For two weeks before the breast augmentation surgery, stay away from stimulants of all kinds, such as caffeine, because they affect the process of anesthesia.
  4. For two weeks before the procedure to avoid bleeding, avoid having any sort of blood thinners such as alcohol and vitamin combinations, as they contain vitamin E.

Stages Of Breast Augmentation

The breast augmentation procedure can be summarized into 4 main stages:

  • First stage: Conducting clinical examinations — The doctor examines the breast and determines the desired size, which is commensurate with the shape of the body and is required to be done through breast augmentation surgery.
  • Second stage: Conducting the necessary tests — Conducting the necessary blood tests to identify blood sugar levels and to make sure that the patient is free of diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension, or immunodeficiency, that would hinder breast augmentation procedures.
  • Third stage: Preparing the patient — The medical staff prepares the patient, and the anesthesiologist administers general anesthesia for the patient.
